Westlake Porter Public Library and the City of Westlake have partnered to provide a StoryWalk® in the Westlake Recreation Center Park, located along the walking path near the playground.
A StoryWalk® is an interactive way for young readers and their caregivers to enjoy reading and nature at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s picture book are displayed on special posts along one of the park's paths. As you stroll down the path you are directed toward the next page of the story.
A joint project between the Library and the City, Westlake's StoryWalk® is funded by the Friends of Porter Public Library and memorial donations in honor of Sandra Sauer, former library employee and member of the Friends.
Approximately once a month, weather permitting, the picture book featured in the StoryWalk® will be swapped out for a new title. Check here or stop by the Youth Services department to find out more about the latest title or any past or future titles.
Sandy Sauer worked at Westlake Porter Public Library after retiring from AT&T in 2001. She was a friendly face at the desk, a discerning selector of paperback books, and an active member of the Friends. She retired from WPPL in 2014.
The picture books featured in the StoryWalk® are provided in Sandy's memory.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
